The Invisible Pact That Drains You Silently – And How to Break It

Introduction

Everything is energy in motion. Every thought, every action, every choice is an energetic transaction whose impact accumulates over time. Yet, most people live in debt without realizing it, wasting their vital capital on fleeting pleasures, superficial stimulations, poor information, and destructive behaviors. In our modern society, immediate gratification has infiltrated everywhere: dopaminergic consumption, time-wasting distractions, and the avoidance of discomfort... all of which lead to energy depletion, mental confusion, and existential stagnation.

Ignoring these mechanisms is to condemn oneself to a downward spiral, where discomfort becomes the default state, and powerful energy becomes an unattainable luxury. But this dynamic is not inevitable. By understanding the principles of energy balance and clarifying the inner filter of the mind, it is possible to reverse the current, to manage activities with wisdom, and to cultivate stable and sustainable inner strength.

I - The Mechanism of Energy Bankruptcy

Managing our time, actions, behaviors, and activities – in other words, how we choose to manage our energy reserve – can be understood through the lens of thermodynamics. Each of us has an energy capital that must be maintained, managed, strengthened, and developed. Everything is fundamentally energy in motion. There is a constant flow of energy and exchange between the individual (the "particle") and the environment (the "field"). The higher a person's energy is and the more smoothly it flows, the greater their physical health, mental and emotional clarity, attention, motivation, intention, and willpower.

Anything that provides quick and easy pleasure ("spending" or releasing energy) through the path of least resistance – such as overeating or consuming toxic foods, refined sugar, energy drinks, antidepressants, stimulants or painkillers, alcohol, recreational substances, THC – leads to a brutal subtraction of energy due to an artificial stimulation of the body. This is what I call "artificial energy depletion": an immediate consumption of energy by external means that provides a temporary boost but compromises long-term energy balance. My definition also highlights the "price" to be paid in terms of health and overall energy.

When we artificially borrow energy, a temporary increase occurs, but it must be repaid with interest!

Metaphor :

  • Available energy reserve ("bank account"): 100 units

  • You consume a stimulating or anesthetizing substance that disrupts homeostasis = borrowing 10 units.

  • These 10 units are suddenly available and spent quickly: short-term gratification.

  • Ledger: -15 units (loan + interest on your global reserve).

  • You enjoyed a few minutes or hours of "pleasure" or temporary relief from a symptom, but you now have only 85 units to function.

  • To recover those 15 units naturally, there is no escape: you must provide "proof of work," meaning sustained effort, which involves another energy expenditure. This may take several days or even weeks, depending on the extent of the initial depletion.

  • If you continue borrowing energy artificially every day, your "account" quickly goes into the red.

  • When your reserve is negative, it becomes urgent to monitor your "energy wealth" with increased discipline to replenish your resources. But if you continue to live beyond your energetic means, you go into "bankruptcy."

Energy management is therefore a delicate balance between consumption and reconstitution. Ignoring this mechanism leads to a gradual "poverty" of our physical and mental capacities, culminating in total energy bankruptcy. I chose the metaphor of capital because it never lies. Spend without replenishing, and you go bankrupt. Borrow without measure, and you chain yourself to interest. Only strategic investment and discipline can build sustainable wealth. Your energy follows the same laws. Waste it or make it grow: that's the only choice. When you insist on compensating artificially by "living on credit" without providing the necessary "proof of work" to replenish your energy ("saving"), the body gradually exhausts itself, eventually leading to disease ("bankruptcy"). This degradation results in extremely low "vibrational levels," marked by negative emotions that promote both physical illness and mental and emotional disorders (confusion). As a result, escaping this infernal circle seems "impossible." This manifests as:

  • Rigid routines and habits

  • Laziness or pride (lack of humility and curiosity)

  • Apathy or a feeling of powerlessness

  • Pessimism, negativity, and fear (conscious or not)

  • Excuses and rationalizations preventing any real change

  • Addictions

II - The Voice of Illusion: Unmasking the Inner Intimidator

  1. The Inner Devil: The Subtle Art of Self-Sabotage

As the energy reserve depletes, the intensity of the "lies of the devil" increases in the mind. The "devil" here is not a supernatural external entity, but a metaphor for the negative inner voices that manipulate the individual, prevent them from fulfilling themselves, and encourage self-destructive behaviors. These temptations drive the waste of inner energy and generate negative emotions such as greed, pride, fear, guilt, doubt, or hatred. This self-sabotage mechanism and low self-esteem trap the individual in stagnation.

The devil symbolizes the mental illusion that distracts from constructive action and truth. Its "lies" take the form of thoughts such as "it's useless," "I'm incapable," "it's impossible," "I'm good for nothing," which encourage counterproductive behaviors and the search for instant gratification.

Feelings of fear or helplessness, themselves forms of energy, manifest through sensations, images, and internal monologues. This "devil's voice" is a tissue of lies and illusions layered over reality, urging one to flee any uncomfortable experience by whispering excuses and rationalizations. The antidote lies in the development of mindfulness and acceptance of so-called unpleasant experiences, despite the mental resistance and uncomfortable sensations imposed by this "lying, manipulative inner intimidator."

  1. The Usurper Within: Who Really Dictates Your Thoughts?

This becomes possible only after serious and consistent observation of the mechanisms governing one’s own mind. Indeed, anyone who embarks on inner investigation through various meditative practices quickly discovers that these negative thoughts represent 95% of mental activity. They are neither real nor personal, but simple constructions of the mind, spontaneous mental obstacles that we identify with by habit. Thoughts are not created by a "personal self," but by an autonomous force that arises spontaneously in the imagination. The "Devil" in this context symbolizes this force that leads us away from well-being and natural order. It is a corrupter of the soul, manipulating the truth, deceiving, and instilling pride, division, and discord. The desire to compensate for or alleviate negative emotions through substance consumption (food, drugs, alcohol, etc.) or escape activities arises when one is led astray by illusions. These lies push us to deny what is and to try to make it disappear artificially.

Functional mental activity, on the other hand, focuses on pragmatically solving problems in real-time. It relies on focused attention and an organization of thought directed towards action. Yet, 95% of mental activity is not part of this pragmatic function but consists of an "inner voice" that intimidates and lies, fueling fear and self-devaluation. As long as an individual has not verified through their own experience that they are not the author of their thoughts, the "Devil" maintains its hold on them, making the person believe they control their mental activity.

In reality, listening to, acting on, and following these lies is a choice. Without our consent, without our "signature on the contract," the Devil has no power: it is completely powerless. This is why it becomes more ingenious in diverting, deceiving, manipulating, and possessing the body-mind in order to execute its destructive agenda.

III - The Pact with the Devil

The path of hedonism, the path of least effort, and instant gratification symbolically corresponds to a "pact with the devil" where one sells their soul in exchange for immediate pleasures. This path is represented in spiritual traditions by "sins" or "unskillful actions": any unvirtuous behavior that perpetuates "evil." The ephemeral and energy-draining well-being experienced immediately deprives one of true, lasting well-being. Integrity, virtue, and honor consist of refusing to "sell one’s soul to the devil," that is, renouncing the deceptive pleasures of instant gratification that hinder spiritual growth. The "Devil," or rather the illusion it represents, is not limited to obvious pleasures and vices. It can also hide behind more subtle forms: workaholism, obsession with success, compulsive pursuit of money or fame, addiction to gambling or shopping, to trading, sexuality, or blind adherence to an ideology. Taking refuge in a system of thought, a belief, or an extreme discipline without inner clarity is just exchanging one prison for another. Even the best intentions can be hijacked if the level of attention is low. Too much discipline becomes rigidity. Too much willpower becomes obsession. Too much faith can lead to fanaticism. Too much desire for control can nourish fear and anxiety. Without vigilance, one believes they are progressing when they are only going in circles in a new trap.

Compulsive consumption follows exactly the same pattern. Regardless of the domain – sexuality, food, money, material possessions – the loop is always the same: initial excitement, ephemeral gratification, growing dissatisfaction. The one who believes they will be fulfilled by sex ends up trapped in an insatiable quest, falling back into dissatisfaction. The one who piles up watches and collectible cars feels a shorter satisfaction with each new purchase, unable to stop because the inner void is never filled from the outside. The one who constantly buys the latest gadget or clothing ends up appreciating nothing, always in search of the next novelty.

Another insidious form of compensation affects both men and women when they let fear or scarcity guide them rather than inner clarity. Many men, lacking experience or fearing being alone, cling to a relationship that doesn't truly suit them. Others, driven by the desire to have children, accept extreme compromises, sacrificing their well-being and personal alignment. On the women's side, influenced by their biological clock and social pressure, they may also engage

in relationships without harmony, driven by a false sense of scarcity. Behind each of these situations is a common theme: the belief that external acquisition will satisfy a feeling of lack. But in the end, this only aggravates the internal emptiness.

IV - The Path to Freedom: Breaking the Chains of Illusion

The only path to true freedom and energy restoration is through personal discipline, introspection, and embracing discomfort. It is about rejecting instant gratification and the mental and emotional patterns that have enslaved us for so long. Choosing not to surrender to the "devil’s lies" is the first step. Developing inner clarity, true well-being, and a relationship to life that is grounded in reality is the second. This requires both physical and mental effort, including:

  1. Cultivating mindfulness and awareness of the present moment

  2. Prioritizing actions that nourish the body and soul, such as exercise, sleep, healthy eating, and meditation

  3. Practicing discipline without rigidity, engaging in meaningful work, and developing patience

  4. Managing energy through conscious choices, avoiding unnecessary distractions or harmful habits

By breaking the pact with the "devil" and choosing long-term well-being over fleeting pleasures, we can reclaim our vitality, clarity, and a deeper sense of purpose.
